I am updating this review to a 4 Star today, for the very reason that iBear support is exceptional. They have pointed out that I am in error about the mortgage interest. Payments are entered as a Discharge of Liability, where interest and principal can be entered when known. They also have a (hard to find) knowledge base where you can find an example import file. This app is far better than I expected.
This is a great app, very professional. I really like it, and love the way it allows you to control your own finances, although, the app is heavily biased to those who download their transactions from a bank, and is not as user friendly as it could be for those who dont/cant do bank downloads, thus I only gave it 3 stars, as well as for the following shortcomings that I have found so far:
- cant split a transaction into a category and a transfer to another account (for example, when you take cash out at the grocery store when paying for groceries; you cant put that cash into an account to track where you subsequently spent the cash)
- no ability to change the type of transaction (e.g. from Income to Expense); need to delete and re-enter
- no auto decimal place when manually entering amounts (must enter the decimal)
- reconciliation is a pain - must open each entry and mark it Cleared and then save, instead of having a separate Reconcile column for "tick and flick"
- no ability to add debit entries into a Liability account - for example, enter the interest portion of a mortgage payment
- no ability to see in one view all recurring transactions you have created
- importing of transactions does not work well, as there didnt seem to be an example CSV file in the Help to show how the file should be set up; if you need to do this, enter a few dummy transactions of several types, go to Reports, select transactions and email a file to yourself; note that the default file type is PDF, so change your Filter > Export Type setting for the Report to CSV (not an intuitive place to find this setting - I assumed it would be in More, with all other settings)
